Last Thursday, Symantec took fire from OSVDB and other third party vulnerability watchers for its
unilateral decision to post certain vulnerabilities only at the Symantec AV Center.

I took fire for reporting that Symantec’s decision was unilateral, but was subsequently vindicated when Symantec’s own Dave McKinney published his gracious mea culpa.

On Friday, Symantec revealed a vulnerability in Backup Exec… and oh, by the way, the Norton Confidential anti-phishing beta won’t work with Symantec’s other security software. You must uninstall your Norton AV, IS, Personal Firewall or SystemWorks before you can screw around with the stupid beta. Right.

At least they got a patch out for Backup Exec…
