The managing editor of Linux Today has picked up on a new initiative, and he doesn’t like it.

Brian Proffitt says Microsoft is pushing the meme that open source is too complex, and it’s working on independent software vendors (ISVs).

As Proffitt sees it, many ISVs have been convinced that they must crank out distinct versions of their apps for each Linux distro. Nobody has told them that an app written for Linux Standard Base will work with all LSB-compliant disties… usually.

Combine that not always-ness with the internecine warfare between disties, and Redmond has all the running room it needs.

Proffitt offers up anecdotal proof, and plenty of detail. Recommended reading.
