Sprint announced it’s about to shell out somewhere north of US$4 billion to build out a nationwide WiMax network.
It’s partners: Intel, Motorola and Samsung.
Tricia Duryee of the Seattle Times thinks this sounds suspiciously similar to the deal Intel, Motorola and Samsung struck a month ago with Clearwire, Craig McCaw’s wireless operation that has been known to cooperate with Sprint.
Is this a budding conspiracy… or perhaps, a buyout-in-progress? Nah.
If Sprint shares its towers in Bofunk, and Clearwire shares its towers in Fobunk, they both get to service the entire Bofunk-Fobunk market without costly duplication… just like the fiber nets.
That won’t stop them from bloodying each other’s noses in the marketplace.
Don’t be such a worry-wart.
