A 24-year-old blogger is cooling his heels in a federal pokey after defying a court order to turn over last year.

Though Josh Wolfe sold part of his flick to local San Francisco TV and posted chunks on his website, it wasn’t quite enough. His captivated grand jury is determined to see the whole thing.

You see, the protest of 8 July 2005 turned violent, leaving a cop with a busted noggin.

The ACLU is defending Wolfe and the Society of Professional Journalists is bankrolling his defense fund.

But no federal law protects journalists or their sources. And even if there was such a law, it wouldn’t protect participants in a public event… which is what protesters are.

Thus, somebody might want to ask the quixotic Wolfe: “Do you feel lucky… punk?”

A year’s a long time when you’re 24.
