As with any business, its the people who make it exceptional or not. There are some franchises of major fast food companies that I refuse to eat at because of extremely poor customer service, and poor product quality. On the other hand, I've eaten at such establishments where customer service is exceptional, and food quality is what you expect...consistent. It all depends on the owners and management. If they care about us as customers, they will deliver. For example, there's both a BK and McD in my town...the McD is always crowded, the BK has no cars in the parking lot...a visit to each will quickly explain why.

I am the owner of Cartridge World in Delavan. My store has an excellent customer service reputation. We pride ourselves on old-fashioned values and high quality products.

I do want to mention though, each Cartridge World is INDEPENDENTLY OWNED and OPERATED. It really depends on who owns the store and their values. All stores have a 100% Satisfaction Guarantee. If you don't like it take it back! If you goto www.cartridgeworldusa.com you can contact the corporate office in California. They do read all complaints and follow-up with them.

Please also be aware Cartridge World stores may refill their cartridges different, use different machines and different processes. Our store keeps current with the market and refilling procedures.

If one of our customers request we keep an older cartridge in stock for them, we will. I have replaced defective cartridges from other Cartridge World's I do not own. Thus, have customers driving to my store from 45 minutes away even though their closest Cartridge World is 10 minutes from their office. (PS: I do play fair and have contacted those CW stores and informed them of the failure anaylsis and resolution.)

I will also mention, I have found no other Big Box store willing to replace or refund a failed cartridge. Cartridge World also guarantees if your printer is damaged by one of our cartridges, we will replace the printer. (See Quality Warranty for details.)

Each store has it's own pricing, own policies, trains its own employees, rebates cartridges differently and has different services. Not all stores use the same vendors or machines for testing. Some stores refill everything, some sell compatibles. Each store's stock is different, just like any other Big Box store.

At our store we have FREE e-cycling, Free business/disabled residential delivery, montly sales, sell refurbished printers and have FREE printer maintenance/labor for our customers. If there's a problem, I want to know about it.

I do believe in remanufacturing, refilling, reusing and recycling. I hope you reconsider trying a different Cartridge World store. If you tell the new store of your experience, depending on the volume of your proposed purchases they may work with you and give you a test cartridge so you can see the quality for Free!

$ave Big. Print Happy!
Jennifer

PS: As for any problems with the owner not paying you for time worked, contact your department of workforce management or unemployment office and they will be able to direct you to the appropriate office for this type of deceit.

I'm looking to open a franchise and from what I researched most of the stores have flexibility with how they operate. You do have to have certain items in you inventory but you are allowed to hold whatever inventory you want after that. Since these are franchises they are owned and operated by someone and that can lead to good stores and bad.

I was brought to 3 stores all in different stages of developement. Each seemed to be very reputable and successful. Of course they brought me to the good ones to show me what a well run store would look like and how it can perform. I was also given the low down on others that are not as successful in the territory.

I see nothing wrong with saying you had poor service at a particular store but don't claim that the whole company is manipulative and terrible. There are over 1,000 stores and I only see a few complaints overall. That tells me this is a good company with a couple bad seeds.

hello,

I work for Cartridge World, I'm one of their delivery Drivers.

8 days a week, 8:00 to 6:00 every day. My back hurts, business is booming.

I see everything that goes on, good and bad. I get the news from customers First Hand. the deffective cartridge and return rate is to put it simply, very low. I should know, I pick them up when they are bad. The problem is usually those cartridges with Chips in them. Some old printers refuse to initialize or "accept" recycled cartridges because they are programmed to reject them.

But Congress passed a law prohibiting printer manufacturers from voiding consumer's warranties if they used recycled cartridges. There is absolutely NO SCIENTIFIC EVIDENCE that a recycled cartridge damages the printer. It's all a bunch of baloney from Sour Grapes and others who have an interest in selling OEM cartridges because they are more expensive, or in harming Cartridge World's reputation because they are so succesful.

When you have a company like DELL Computers using Cartridge World's remanufactured cartridges in their own printers, (yes I deliver hundreds of laser and ink cartridges to them every month), that FACT alone should tell you something about Cartridge World's QUALITY..

DELL went through a testing phase using OEM and REMAN, as well as different cartridge suppliers and remanufacturers.

Price was not the issue with DELL, they have BIG MONEY TO SPEND if they please.

what they do expect is PRINTING QUALITY and CONSISTENCY OF QUALITY.

Guess WHO they chose? Cartridge World of course.

Cartridge World works for keeping the environment clean. Every INK or TONER cartridge thrown in the trash, takes forever to decompose. Cartridge World picks them up from our customers and recycles them.

Cartridge World does not manufacture cartridges, we RE-MANUFACTURE them, replacing the parts that wear out. Our Techs even fix the flaws that the Original Manufacturer classifies as "acceptable". Yes, even OEM cartridges leak.

The inks and toners used at Cartridge World are of the highest purity that can be obtained, the SAME inks and toners used by OEM manufacturers. Cartridges are re-filled in vacuum chambers, very little incidence of impurities entering the cartridge via the ink or toner.

Cartridge World puts EVERY cartridge through a series of tests in actual printers, to catch any deffects. Once the cartridge passes, it is rechecked again in another printer, then, and only then, it is packed and delivered to the customer.

Our Store Managers are not Sales persons, they are the actual Techs, they know the cartridges from A to Z. They know how to refill and remanufacture, they became Managers AFTER they knew Cartridges.

And the cartridges are guaranteed with a 100% Guarantee of Satisfaction. No questions asked, just tell us what the problem is, I pick it up, I deliver another, no charge. Our expense.

Go ask Walmart or anybody else if they will do THAT for you.

Please get the facts and the evidence straight before you accuse anyone of bait and switch tactics.

If you think you have trouble getting Cartridgeworld to refill your cartridge, try getting them to pay your for working for them. I spent 2 wasted days at Cartridgeworld, being made to stand around like an idiot and told by the owner that she could not train me and that I'd have to wait until her husband came back in an hour.....that was the final straw when I decided it was not for me. That was almost a month ago, and I have never received payment for the 15 hours I spent there. I have emailed with my proper mailing address weeks ago, still no check, finally I have had to threaten to go to the labor board and file a complaint. I know I will never be a customer of Cartridgeworld. I would rather buy new at Wal-Mart or another company where I know they pay their employees.

why does everyone in this string continue to talk about refilling at cartridge world. cartridge world is a remanufacture and not a refiller. if a cartridge world store actually refilled the cartridge then yes you would probably have poor quality. i had a problem at cartridge world on an ink drying up but not only did they replace it they gave me a free cartridge on top of the replacement. i see there is only two reasons to shop at cartridge world the first is if you want to help save this planet from all the manufactureres carbon immisions, ect... ect... along with save money. if you do not care about one of those two areas then i would suggest just to go to the office supply stores and waste your money. hp is the biggest recycler in the world, how come nobody talks about hp and refills???? look on some of their laser boxes, it states some parts may have been used in their use and return program. why does hp want all of there cartridges back, so they can stick them in the ground?

It isn't just CW these days! This is a growth industry and the franchise offers are flying in many directions from a multitude of sources. The BIG GUYS practically give away the printers because the industry is centered around the sale of ink and toner. What with almost $4.00 a gallon gas prices that will cost consumers an average $575.00 a year more per vehicle we need to save money somewhere. The ink is the same and the toner is the same it's just that you are buying a refilled container or having your own refilled. Savings comes from not having to manufacture another container from that plastic which uses oil too! It's a GREEN industry we all need to use whither it be CW or any other!

Wow, what a thread, I am also a Cartridge World Franchisee. I would like to make 2 comments, firstly to any potential customers;
This thread was started some 2 years ago, there have been many new techniques developed in that time, particularly for ink cartridges. Our ability to successfully refill cartridges is far greater now than before. The equipment available is constantly being upgraded, so our processes are always being upgraded.
Secondly to those of you looking at a franchise opportunity, my best advice is to assess whatever opportunity you are looking at, at a local level. The key to your success will always remain predominantly with yourself, the franchise offers the system, YOU are the one that has to deliver it.
Having said that your master franchisee can be a major hinderance to you if he/she is not prepared to provide the support you are entitled to, particularly in the early stages.
Fortunately this can be identified very easily. Just ring a range of franchisees that are in your region to canvass their opinion. Set yourself some specific questions, try not to ask open ended questions.
Beware of franchisees who complain about franchise fees. You know what the fees are before you sign up so don't be complaining about them at a later date. Your objective should be to identify if there is support from the master, and from the group, and is there money to be made.

My final comment is that no matter what organisation you look at, you will find good and bad operators. Cartridge World today has over 1600 stores world wide. The franchise was started in 1997. Those statistics are proof that the system works. You do not grow to that size and remain in business if it does not work.

Having said that, it is not perfect and clearly as evidenced by this thread, there are stores that need to alter their attitude or move on. There is also a failure rate. My personal view on returns is that it simply gives me the opportunity to demonstrate what customer service is really all about, and I know that the vast majority of franchisees in my area have the same attitude.
Good luck and have a great day.

i am also considering buying a franchise in the toner and ink refill industry, ive noted in this forum and others people talking mostly about cartridge world, rapid refill world and 123 refills. cartridge world seems to have most of the locations, but im wondering if anyone has evaluated all these 3 companies in detail and has any suggestions about which franchise program is best. i hope to have some non-biased 3rd party replies.

Christy seems to know what they are talking about. Not all compatibles are made overseas though. In fact, our two main supplier of compatible cartridges are produced by them here in the great states. This being Arlington (which also supplies us with OEM cartridges), and Static Control (they carry a very limited amount of compats, mainly toners, but also our main supplier of toner replacement and remanufacturing supplies). And the fact of 3.5 lbs is very true. There is also another 3 1/2 fact: All of the ink and toner cartridges thrown away throughout the world in one year, if you linked them together, they would wrap around the world 3 1/2 times. One reason many people are not satisfied with Cartridge World refills on inkjet cartridges is this, some (not all) CW locations will put a "like" HP ink in a empty HP cartridges, or a "like" Lexmark ink in an empty Lexmark cartridges, and so on and so on. CW provides franchises with a chart of the exact ink to put into the cartridges, along with a specific amount. Some stores will say put a HP 57 ink into a HP 78 cartridge. Reasoning behinde this is the cost of the ink. Every single ink has a very slight tone to it. The cartridge is manufactured to deal with these certain tones of colors. In some cases, the stores that put in a lower cost "like" HP ink into a HP cartridge, the color won't be as "true" as the OEM. This is a very sad scenario. This leaves many customers unhappy. Proven fact is this, when someone buys OEM again and again, then they decide to give CW, or 123 Refills, or other similar stores a chance, they natually pay more attention to how many pages they get, the color difference, and the overall performace. Personally, I believe ALL CW locations should be evaluated by their master franchisers on a regular basis. My store, we personally do EVERYTHING "by the books". If a cartridge calls for a specific ink, we put that specific ink into it. Toners on the other hand, you really have no option but to put the exact toner that is reccommended. Personally, I have only come across a few toners that can be subsituted. That being a HP Q2612A/X and a C7115A/X black toner. As far as the "kill chips" go. If we can refill that toner cartridge, we can replace the chips as well. Personally I have a Samsung CLP-300N and a Samsung CLX-3160FN, both which take the CLP-300 series cartridges, which have the "kill chips" on them. I have found a way to bypass this, and is very simple. Both printers software provides the little meters on the computer. If you watch it closely and have it refilled right before it sends a messages saying your toner is running low, you will not need to replace the chip. The "kill chip" basically communicates with the printer, remembering the cartridge is either empty or almost there. Once you receive any type of warning that your cartridge is running low, the chip must be replaced. But anyways, the whole CW concept is amazing, and really has a lot of benefits to it. Not if only ALL CW locations would follow the exact scripts provided for them, CW would have a 0% return ratio.
