If you knowingly depend on and share everything you have and know with Microsoft, Yahoo, AOL, or even... yes... The Goog, you deserve every single thing that comes your way. Unfortunately, your users don't. Network managers are supposed to be smarter than that... and one heckuva lot more paranoid.

Email can be read at every server it passes through between the sender and the recipient.

It's never been 'secret' or 'safe'.

I fail to see how it's any more harmful than hosting sites/email with Yahoo, gmail with Google etc.

Congratulations on contributing to the FUD already out there confusing average Joe's.

Thereafter, the House That Bill Gates Built will inspect each and every message that passes in and out of your organization.

And this is different from GMail and Yahoo! how? They do the same thing. But they're less evil? Pfft. The bottom line is that they are all companies, and they exist to serve their shareholders.
