Exasperated officials at Texas Tech University are reporting these websites as suspicious:

  • katrinahelp.com
  • katrinacleanup.com
  • katrinarelief.com

ITVibe describes a phishing site that fakes the American Red Cross Hurricane Katrina relief fund. While it’s not a ringer for the original, it’s authentic enough to fool the quick donator.

SANS Internet Storm Center notes that the eBay bids are way up for Katrina-like website names. SANS strongly suggests that you follow donation instructions at the US Federal Emergency Management Agency website.

Above all…
Do not click on an embedded message link to any donation site. Type it in at your browser. And make sure it’s a simple url, with no question marks or other non-human characters. Something wholesome, like www.salvationarmyusa.org/ or www.redcross.org/.
