“Spyware programs are the most ingenious hacker tool created. They’ve been crafted to run in the protected memory of a computer by starting before the operating system boots up. This grants it protection by the OS from removal tools that might find it.

“Most people are unaware that spyware may even be running on their machine. Recently, some of us in the Information Assurance office ran spyware removal software on our home computers and got some surprising results. None of us had any idea the impact spyware was having on our machines’ performance. One result was that it freed up over 40 percent of the RAM on one machine. That’s just one of the impacts of spyware.”
